Qasim Ibrahim, speaker of the People’s Majlis, has met with the Progressive Party of Maldives’ (PPM) parliamentary group.
PPM parliamentary group leader Ahmed Nihan said that Qasim is one an example of a leader that ‘listens, and finds a quick solution’.
Fonadhoo constituency MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who has been involved in establishing a new party, has also met with Qasim.
PPM aligned lawmakers are loyalists of its current leader Abdulla Yameen, who is reported to have been behind the new party that MP Raheem set up.
However, the Elections Commission has said that most of the membership forms submitted by the party are invalid.
Qasim is also leader of the Jumhooree Party, a partner in the government coalition which said that they are willing to work with other parties in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
