MNDF refloats speadboat that sank en-route to Dhigurah

MNDF received the report of the sea incident on Thursday evening

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s Male’ Area Coast Guard Squadron has begun refloating a vessel that sank enroute to Dhigurah island in Alif Dhaalu atoll from capital city Male’.

42 passengers had been on board at the time “Fazaa 5” began sinking five miles southward from Mahibadhoo island in Alif Dhaalu on Thursday evening. Out of the passengers, 14 were women and four were children.

Expatriates were included among the passengers.

The passengers have since been safely transferred to Mahibadhoo city ambulance and a police speedboat. They have temporarily been transferred to Dhangethi island since.

No injuries were reported in the sea incident that was reported to the MNDF at around 05:38 pm.

While the speedboat had attained damages to the bow.
