The MET Office released the yellow alert this afternoon

The Maldives Meteorological Services (MET Office) has issued a yellow alert for islands between Alif Alif atoll and the capital Kaafu atoll.

While the MET Office has already issued white alert for nine atolls in the Maldives, it released a yellow alert for said atolls this afternoon.

The three-hour alert states that these islands will experience heavy and rain with thunder storms. The MET Office has also said that islands across the country will likely experience showers in the next 24 hours.

Surface winds are expected to gust at about 15 miles per hour at most in central atolls and 13 miles per hour at most elsewhere, the MET Office says.
