President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President-elect Faisal Naseem will be residing in the official residences established by the state, Mulee-aage and Hilaaleege.
RaajjeMV understands that while Solih will be residing in Mulee-aage while Naseem will be residing in Hilaaleege, the renovation of both residences is underway as they are to take oath of office on Saturday.
Although RaajjeMV is yet to attain an official word on the matter, credible sources report that the President-elect’s residence has been finalized as Mulee-aage, Naseem’s as Hilaaleege.
The budget being reviewed by Parliament currently shows that a total of MVR 37.8 million is being spent by the state for incumbent President Abdulla Yameen's official residence this year. However, the budget for Solih's residence has been significantly reduced to MVR 31.5 million.
According to the budget for 2019 that has been sent for review at Parliament, MVR 6.3 million has been reduced from the budget for Solih's official residence compared to the expenses of President Yameen's residence. A budget of MVR 2.5 million has been allocated for the official residence of Vice President-elect Faisal Naseem.
The money being spent on President Yameen’s official residence is MVR 12 million more than the MVR 25.8 million allocated in the budget. According to the state budget, MVR 19.6 million from the finance ministry’s special budget was also spent on the residences.
The state had declared Muliaage and Hilaaleege as the outgoing President’s official residences and even built a three-story house in Aarah island for him to spend holidays in. RaajjeMV understands that President Yameen had even spent state funds for the construction of his own residence, “Dhoovehi” during the beginning of his term.
