Flat receipts to be distributed before new government takes over

Flat recipients will be handed their receipts before the end of next week, revealed the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.

While the distribution of official receipts to flat recipients began this week, the Ministry had notified the recipients that after receiving the receipt, no alterations can be brought. However, the Ministry revealed that recipients may take the receipts to court if they have any issues.

The Ministry had last week, summoned flat recipients under the “Wedded couples” category to let them pick out their choices. At the meetings, the Ministry had answered questions posed by the recipients as well.

Although spouses of nurses, doctors and teachers had received flats, they have not yet been officially given flats.

The Ministry revealed that if spouses under different categories both received the flats, they may decide which one may register for their flat as Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu revealed earlier that if a married couple are both in the recipients list, only one of them would receive a flat.

Under the government housing scheme, the Ministry will only be deciding the flat recipients while the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will be doing the rest of the work such as making the agreements, and other such related work.

The Ministry had previously cited the HDC stating that the development of the 7,000 flats under the housing scheme will be completed by April or May this year. The flats, contracted to a Chinese company, are being constructed in 25 – 16 storey towers in the Phase II area of capital city Male’s suburban extension Hulhumale.

While work has begun to distribute flat receipts, the Ministry had last Monday revealed that they had evaluated over 3,000 complaints regarding the final flat recipients list and made the necessary amendments. As such, Dr. Muizzu revealed that over 800 applicants from the interim list of the housing scheme has been left out of the final list.

Some of the complaints received include the Ministry not having appropriately reviewed the applications having finalized the list just after looking over the given information and issues by those who had the required qualifications had not received flats while some of the applicants who had the same qualifications but had received flats. Some issues also note that some of those who are included in the final list of flat recipients have also received the TATA flats specialized for some offices that were built in “Gaakoshi”.
