State needs to take pride in the proceedings of election day: EC spokesperson

'This election had the biggest team of observers, monitors and delegates from contesting candidates'

'Many observers were active throughout the election'

'The electoral procedure was carried out independently'

If the state is to take pride in anything done by state institutions, it must be for the smooth procedures observed throughout the Presidential Election, says Elections Commission member and spokesperson Ahmed Akram.

Speaking on RaajjeTV on Tuesday night, Akram stated that the Elections Commission had carried out the electoral process very smoothly and that the procedure was carried out independently.

Refuting claims that the elections commission had carried things out unlawfully, Akram appealed on all to stop spreading such fabricated rumors, asserting that the commission is "a hundred percent" assured that nothing illegal was done throughout the electoral process.

Akram further requested officials to stop talking about things they had not observed themselves.

“Please stop giving statements about things that had not even happened, and in ways that pave way for negative questions about the citizens votes.  Do not give such statements to media as this will bring serious impacts to the dignity of people” said Akram.

The spokesperson went on to state that this election had the biggest team of observers, monitors and delegates from contesting candidates, posing the question as to where they were if such illegal practices were observed in the electoral process.

Assuring that due procedure will be followed in the elections that are to come, Akram said that nothing can be achieved through threatening commission members.

When asked about the preparations for the Parliamentary Election, Akram said that they had held discussions about the changes that are to be brought to constituencies, stating that discussions had also been held with constituents regarding changes.
