Maldives national women’s football team has on Monday departed to Palestine to play in the first qualifying round for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The team is comprised of many young players and is in Group D with Indonesia, Jordan and host Palestine.
The first round of qualification is scheduled to be held in Palestine from 08th till the 13th of November and Maldives team will be playing its first match against Jordan on 08th November. Its second match follows on Sunday, the 11th against Indonesia. Maldives will be playing its third and final match against Palestine on the 13th November.
It is notable that all three teams in the qualifying round have higher rankings than the Maldives in the table.
While the first round of the qualification is comprised of four groups, the team with the most points will travel to the second qualification round.
The Maldives national women’s football team had also competed in the AFC qualifying round quite recently. However, they had lost all of the matches by a large margin.
