Recently elected parliament speaker, MP Qasim Ibrahim, called on President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday.
While the meeting took place at the president-elect’s office, details have not been disclosed.
This is the first official meeting between the two since Qasim’s appointment as speaker. 62 MPs had voted in favor of Qasim in the secret vote held in parliament last Thursday, while only 16 voted for his opponent, ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s vice president MP Abdula Raheem Abdulla.
The parliament is currently making final preparations for Solih’s inauguration, to be held on November 17.
The Maamigilli constituency MP is also the leader of the Joint Opposition’s coalition partner Jumhoree Party.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s leader, former President Mohamed Nasheed also called on Solih on Sunday.
