Local NGO, Transparency Maldives on Saturday presented their “Anti-Corruption Agenda for Clean Governance” to the President-elect, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is to take oath of office on the 17th of November.
The Anti-Corruption Agenda comprises of 12 key points some of which include the development of Parliamentary processes to hold state institutions to account, to promote clean leadership in key institutions, to establish freedom of media, to ensure independence of commissions to counter corruption, to ensure political finance transparency and to establish an independent, effective and merit-based public service and law enforcement regime among several others.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, TM’s Advocacy and Communications Manager Aiman Rasheed stated that the agenda was assembled based on investigations carried out by the organization, as well as happenings in the Maldives and foreign countries alike.
Aiman stated that they had further assured their assistance to Solih and his administration to implement all key points stated in the agenda, if required.
The anti-corruption NGO states that these recommendations will help the incoming government of the joint opposition coalition to tackle corruption and promote clean governance.
