Maldives Monetary Authority’s former Governor Azeema Adam is to be summoned to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regarding it’s investigation into Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)’s massive embezzlement case
ACC’s Vice President Muavviz Rasheed told some media outlets that the commission is taking statements from some individuals under the duty prosecution which must be carried out before the case is sent for prosecution at the Prosecutor General’s office.
The former Governor was questioned on a previous occasion as well and ACC had taken a statement from her back then. Azeema is currently living with spouse, Ali Naseer in the United States. Naseer serves as the Maldives Ambassador to the U.S.
Several allegations have been pinned on MMPRC after an audit report has confirmed that MVR 1.22 billion was stolen from the state. As such, MMA has been subject to criticism after reports surfaced that it had transferred over a billion MVR to its bank account that allegedly belongs to the state. Al Jazeera’s documentary Stealing Paradise indicated that some of the money was taken to President Yameen’s home and Adeeb, his second Vice President, has claimed that he had been in charge of governing the state while President Yameen counted the money coming in.
