Member of Parliament for Villingili constituency, Saud Hussain has stated that the reason for his return to parliament "is the people's resilience".
Saud, who is among the 12 opposition-aligned lawmakers unseated by the Elections Commission, was reinstated by the Supreme Court earlier this month, 15 months after he had been barred from entering Parliament premises.
Out of the 12 unseated MPs, four that have since been reinstated, have joined the sitting on Sunday.
As such, alongside Saud, MP for Maduvvari constituency, Mohamed Ameeth, MP for Thulusdhoo constituency, Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim as well as MP for Dhihdhoo constituency, Abdul Latheef Mohamed joins Sunday’s sitting.
Speaking to press outside the Parliament house before the sitting commenced, Saud said that “today, the voice of Villingili and Kolamaafushi constituents will be heard inside the Parliament” and that it was made possible only by the resilience and hard work shown by the people, as well as the Joint Opposition.
“At today’s sitting, we will observe the work to bring justice back to the horizon of the country. We will make sure serving justice is prioritized in the Parliament house” said Saud.
