Parliament’s Deputy Speaker and representative of Hulhuhenveiru constituency, Moosa Manik has stated that he is saddened by the way things have been carried out inside the parliament house 'in the past', adding that he is 'finally' being allowed to carry out his work as deputy.
While the parliament house has drawn severe criticism for the way things were conducted in the past years, Deputy Speaker Manik indicated that he had been powerless throughout.
“Parliament Speaker did not task me with anything before, however, I now have the authority to carry out the work, as per Article 2 of the Constitution” said Manik.
The Deputy Speaker also said that the condition inside the parliament house has deteriorated immensely, and that it has fallen into a pit. Stressing that this must not happen, Manik said that he has never seen this much deterioration throughout his 15 years in Parliament.
“As a member, this saddens me immensely, however, I have remained in this position out of respect for the Speaker. It has been 15 years since I have been in this occupation, I have never seen anything like this throughout. Today I have the authority to do something about this” said Manik.
While Manik has stated this, he had also stated that work is being carried out to reconvene Parliament sittings 'as early as next Sunday'. He has also appealed at the Supreme Court to conclude the cases of the dismissed MPs as soon as possible as all sitting members are required to reconvene parliament sittings.
