The statements given regarding the constitutional case filed by outgoing President Abdulla Yameen at the Supreme Court, requesting to annul the result of the 2018 Presidential Election, were signed after the last hearing held on Tuesday. Next will be the verdict hearing.
RaajjeMV understands that three parties had signed the statements taken in court during the three-day trial, on Wednesday.
The three parties involved in the case are plaintiff, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, represented by Judicial Service Commission (JSC) member Ahmed Saleem, Legal Affairs Minister at President’s office, Azima Shakoor and former High Court Judge, Abbas Shareef, the accused, Elections Commission, represented by famed attorney Hussain Shameem and the joint opposition coalition whose candidate was the only other contestant, represented by prominent attorney Hisaan Hussain and her team.
The constitutional case was filed on the 10th of October, following which, the Supreme Court ordered the Elections Commission to testify on the 13th of October. Court scheduled hearings to commence on the 14th of October and hearings were held back-to-back, three consecutive days of this week. In the last hearing, the bench of judges refused to let secret witnesses presented by the plaintiff to testify in court.
While the trial ended two days ago, the court is yet to schedule a verdict hearing.
In the last hearing, the plaintiff requested the court to look into 11 matters, out of which none effecting the results of the election, were presented.
