President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will take his oath of office at the National Football Stadium, says Hassan Latheef, who is heading the committee tasked with preparing Solih’s inauguration ceremony.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee programme on Thursday night, Hassan Latheef, who is also the chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), said that they have decided to hold the inauguration at the national stadium to allow the greatest number of people to attend the event.

Hassan Latheef said they will be inviting leaders and senior members of foreign countries and prominent members of the international community, and that the foreign ministry to send invitations to about 150 countries.

While Maldives will be celebrating the 50th anniversary since becoming a republic this year, Solih’s inauguration will become the first one that is open to the public.
