A hearing on former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s appeal of his prison sentence has been scheduled for next week.
Maumoon’s lawyer, Hussein Shameem, said that while a hearing was expected to be held this week, it was postponed due to a delay of a Criminal Court report on the case.
The High Court had on 30th September granted bail for Maumoon, who is serving a jail term on obstruction charges, to house arrest.
Additional charges of terrorism and bribery have been put forth against him, and proceedings for them are yet ongoing.
Maumoon was arrested on February 6th, along with two Supreme Court justices for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the government through a ‘judicial coup’.
