Reports surface that a court order has been issued to arrest Sheikh Ilyas

RaajjeMV has received report that a court order has been issued to arrest religious scholar and prominent member of the Adhaalath Party (AP), Ilyas Hussain, following his statements regarding President Abdulla Yameen.
While these reports have been circulating on social media since Tuesday evening, the matter has been reported to RaajjeMV through credible sources. However, this has not been confirmed through any state institution.
The reports surfaced following ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM)’s Parliamentary Group leader Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik having called for his arrest via twitter on Sunday.
Ilyas has, through public speeches, declared his support for the opposition coalition’s Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and running mate Faisal Naseem.
Speaking at a Joint Opposition gathering held in Addu city on the 01st of September, Ilyas revealed the last conversation he had with fellow religious scholar Dr. Afrasheem Ali, who was the representative of Ungoofaaru constituency in Parliament, before he was gruesomely murdered six years ago, in early October 2012.
Ilyas had revealed speculations circulating on social media that nine individuals who had been involved in the plot to murder Dr. Afrasheem, had been killed on separate occasions ever since his assassination.
Following this claim, PG leader Nihan had taken to twitter on Sunday, saying that Ilyas must be brought under police custody and questioned about his knowledge on Afrasheem’s murder, since he has revealed that he knows who is behind Afrasheem’s murder.
Sheikh Ilyas had at a gathering held in Fuvahmulah city on Monday night, posed several questions regarding the former MP’s murder. As such, he had called on authorities to thoroughly investigate the accusations pinned on Hussain Humaam, who was convicted for the murder.
RaajjeMV understands that Ilyas is currently in Fuvahmulah city and is scheduled to return to capital city Male’ some time on Tuesday night.
