Police have arrested a suspect in connection to the fire at the 'Mariyaadhuge', an antique house located in the harbour of Gahdhoo island of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll.

Noting that the arson was reported to the police at around 10:30pm on Monday, police spokesperson told RaajjeMV that a 41-year-old man has been arrested over the attack.

There were no injuries in the fire.

However, the island's 'Mariyaadhuge', made entirely out of wood and palm fronds, has been 'damaged beyond use'.

The antique house was built on the island harbour as part of the welcome decoration for President Abdulla Yameen.
