A unity government led by the opposition coalition will not get involved with state funds, says coalition Presidential hopeful Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s running mate, Faisal Naseem.

Naseem and team visited his native island Fuvahmulah as part of the opposition’s campaign tour on Monday, where, speaking to residents who had gathered to greet him, Naseem stated that residents must cast their votes for Solih, because he will not touch a single coin of the state funds.

He assured residents that a unity government will work closely with the citizens with complete sincerity and honesty, and that neither he, nor Solih will touch even a single coin of the state funds.

“Solih deserves the citizens vote because he has proved to be a sincere person within his 25 to 30-year political career, that he will bring about a positive change to the development of the nation and that he will not get involved in the state fund. We are pledging to the citizens that we will work with them, closely with complete sincerity and honesty” said Naseem.

Naseem said that residents who do not show solidarity with the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) must vote for Solih in order to pave way for a future filled with hope and optimism. Naseem called on the residents to cast aside their fear for the incumbent President, Abdulla Yameen, and rise up against him in support of the joint opposition.

“Those who are cloaked with fear for their job, must rise above the fear for the next 34 days. Those who have been sacked need not worry as the eighteenth of November is the day they get re-employed with the grace of God” said Naseem.

Naseem had begun door-to-door campaign activities from his native district, Funadu, after meeting and greeting with residents who had gathered to welcome him in the MDP campaign site in Dhoondigan district. The opposition vice-presidential candidate is to visit households in various districts of Fuvahmulah during his two-day trip to check on the living conditions of the residents, as well as to inquire on their unfulfilled needs and necessities.

If the opposition coalition wins the approaching Presidential election slated for 23rd September, Naseem will be the second Vice President to have represented Fuvahmulah, the first being President Abdulla Yameen’s first Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.

According to the enthusiastic crowd in Fuvahmulah, the opposition coalition will defeat President Yameen by a large margin in the September election, asserting their assurance that the next administration will be of Solih and Naseem’s. Residents added that Solih, as his name states, is a person of good virtue.
