Home ministry’s deputy minister Mohamed Ibrahim died on Tuesday.
A senior home ministry official told RaajjeMV that Ibrahim had been on sick-leave on Tuesday and that it had been a surprise for his co-workers to hear of his death.
The official said that Ibrahim was very active at work but that in his last message to the Viber group he said that he was sick that day. His office found out about his death at 3pm, the official added.
A close associate of Ibrahim said that his death had signs of a heart attack.
Ibrahim had filled various government positions since Dr. Mohamed Waheed’s administration and had been seen in ruling party rallies. He had also been involved in the Maldivian film industry.
His father, Bodube Ibrahim Fulhu, was renowned for his contributions to the state and his daughter is married to MP Nihan Hussain Manik, a senior lawmaker of the ruling party.
His funeral prayer is at Aasahara cemetery at 11pm on Wednesday.
