The Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) has published their newly drafted guideline on broadcasting content to do with candidates contesting the upcoming elections and opened it for public opinion.

These guidelines include procedures on giving out slots to political parties and presidential candidates to broadcast their content ahead of September’s elections, in order to attain votes.

These guidelines also include procedures on broadcasting advertisements and other programs sent by political parties. MBC will be accepting public opinion on these guidelines until 02pm on 15th July.

Under these guidelines, the only candidates that are viable for broadcast are those that the Elections Commission approves. Content to do with them can be broadcast until 06am before the day of the ballots.

Comments towards the guidelines can include criticism as well, the commission has said.
