Pro-government lawmaker endorses First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim for presidency
Sentiments towards putting forth the first lady for vice presidency has existed within the ruling party for some time
MP Yameen had retweeted a post with the tag ‘#Madam4VP’
The post came with the caption, ‘only a woman loyal to her husband can be loyal to citizens’

After a twitter handle used to campaign for President Abdulla Yameen uploaded posts supporting First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim for vice presidency, Velidhoo MP Yameen Rasheed and activists have endorsed it.

MP Yameen had retweeted the post with the tag ‘#Madam4VP’ while a number of pro-government activists had done the same.

The post came with the caption, ‘only a woman loyal to her husband can be loyal to citizens’. It was followed by another photograph of First Lady Fathimath during her visit to a special needs institute, which said ‘no Maldivian woman has shown this much compassion, Madam is ideal for vice presidency’.

Sentiments towards putting forth the first lady for vice presidency has existed within the ruling party for some time, with then pro-government MP Mohamed Musthafa having said in 2016 that she is not only adequate, but perhaps the best option Maldives has for a vice president.

After Friday’s post, opposition aligned MP Ahmed Mahloof said that ‘Madam might as well the ideal running mate for dictator Yameen’.
