Canadian Ambassador to Maldives and High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, David McKinnon has met with senior officials of the Jumhooree Party of the Maldives.

Jumhooree Party said that the party’s Vice President Dr. Mausoom and senior members of Jumhooree Party had briefed the Ambassador about the current political situation in the Maldives.

McKinnon had also met with opposition parliamentarian for South-Galolhu constituency Ahmed Mahloof who is currently under house arrest.

RaajjeMV understands that His Excellency McKinnon had visited the lawmaker at his current residence and the two had discussed the upcoming Presidential Elections as well as the current political situation in the country.

Following the visit, the lawmaker had posted a tweet expressing his gratitude to the Canadian Ambassador for visiting him, adding that he is thankful for “the continuous support from Canada.”

Mahloof’s tweet reads that there is 100% guarantee that the Presidential Election on September will not be a “free and fair election”, however, Mahloof wrote that the joint opposition will win despite the obstacles they face.

While the joint opposition’s preparations for the ballots are proceeding full steam ahead, MP Mahloof remains under house arrest for distributing masks at an opposition rally held during the State of Emergency. His transfer to house arrest came after he had been kept in detention for a period of time.
