Following the visit, the lawmaker had posted a tweet expressing his gratitude to the Canadian Ambassador for visiting him, adding that he is thankful for “the continuous support from Canada.”
Thank you Ambassador @McKinnonDavid for visiting me. Thankful for the continuous support from Canada. We are 100% sure that it won’t be a free and fair election, but In Sha Allah we will win despite the obstacles we face @CanHCSriLanka pic.twitter.com/drnuqcLql8

Mahloof’s tweet reads that there is 100% guarantee that the Presidential Election on September will not be a “free and fair election”, however, Mahloof wrote that the joint opposition will win despite the obstacles they face.
While the joint opposition’s preparations for the ballots are proceeding full steam ahead, MP Mahloof remains under house arrest for distributing masks at an opposition rally held during the State of Emergency. His transfer to house arrest came after he had been kept in detention for a period of time.
