The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated that they have been preparing for the Presidential Elections slated for September since January 2018 to ensure that peace and stability is maintained before, during and after the ballots.

MPS Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan, speaking to media at a press conference held on Thursday, said that the MPS has discussed ways to ensure a smooth, calm election is carried out with the Elections commission and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to further reinforce the security committee of the Presidential Election.

As such, Shifan said that officers of the police who will be actively involved in maintaining security at the ballots, will be dispatched to outlying atolls in coming July.

The spokesperson added that the police force will do everything in it’s power to ensure that peace, stability and rule of law is upheld before, during and after the ballots.

Shifan added that many acts of obstructing peace within the capital city Male’ as well as significant other islands of the archipelago nation are being observed currently, going on to say that no such chances will be given in the approaching ballots.
