Will do everything to ensure 'peaceful, calm' voting day: police
MPS signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Elections Commission, agreeing to provide full support for the upcoming elections

Maldives Police Service has said that they will ensure conducive environment for presidential elections this September.

At a ceremony held on Thursday, MPS signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Elections Commission, agreeing to provide full support for the upcoming elections. This includes providing security, transporting ballot boxes and handling all things logistics.

Speaking to the press after, President of EC Ahmed Shareef gave assurance that there will be no changes to the voting date, which is September 23.

"Presidential elections will be held on September 23. There could be changes to some of the other announced dates, but there is no possibility of delaying the vote," he said.

When questioned on the security details for election day, acting police commissioner Abdulla Nawaz said that he hopes that this year's election will be "calm and peaceful", adding that Maldives Police Service will do everything to ensure that. He added that they have already begun work to ensure a peaceful election.
