South-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof’s trial has been used as a case study at a human rights forum in Geneva.
The forum was held at a side-event of the 38th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
In the forum, they discussed the state charges against Mahloof, his condition in prison, and what Mahloof has been doing to gain his rights.
A group called ‘Friends of Mahloof’ was also established to monitor his situation.
Amnesty International has designated Mahloof a Prisoner of Conscience. He was also recently picked as the first ever 'Democracy Fellow' of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies, weeks after the Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) conferred him with the 'Defender of Democracy' award.
Mahloof, who has been issued four charges by the state, has been in and out of jail for the past two years.
