An opportunity has been opened for interested individuals to apply for the posts of judges at the High Court.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) made the announcement on Tuesday for which applicants are to submit their application forms before the 05th of July.
A High Court judge receives a basic salary of MVR 36,000 per month with a living allowance of MVR 15,000 and a risk allowances of MVR 3,300, adding up a total of MVR 50,000.
With the amendments brought to the judiciary, there are currently 11 sitting judges at the High Court with three judges at each of the south and west branchest and five in capital city Male'. However, with the new amendments, judges who were working in the south and west branches of the High Court are currently working in the capital city.
Nine judges are currently at the High Court in Male', they are: Head Judge Abdulla Didi, Judge Abdulla Hameed, Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya, Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, Ali Sameer, Shujau Usman, Abdul Ghani Mohamed, Hassan Ali and Mohamed Niyaz.
The announcement of vacant seats at the High Court was followed by the Judicial Service Commission’s decision to appoint High Court’s Head Judge Abdulla Didi and Judge Abdul Ghani to the recently vacated seats at the Supreme Court’s bench following the guilty verdict passed on former Chief of Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed.
