Detained former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s wife Mariyam Nashwa has said that her husband is being kept in solitary confinement because the current government is intimidated by him.
In a tweet posted on Monday evening, the former VP’s wife wrote that putting her husband in solitary confinement, denying his lawyer meetings and restricting family visits is not going to assure President Abdulla Yameen will triumph in the upcoming Presidential Election.
Govt, open ur ears and listen hard. Treating Adeeb as ur biggest threat for the upcoming presidential election and putting him in solitary confinement, denying his lawyer meetings, restricting family visits isn’t going to give you a win! Resign now!

Nashwa said that Adeeb is being treated in such a manner because the administration sees him as an obstacle to them winning this year’s election.
She also called on President Yameen to resign immediately.
In an earlier tweet after Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) had reportedly restricted Adeeb’s lawyer visits. According to the Nashwa, MCS had said that Adeeb will only be granted a meeting with his lawyer once the court schedules a hearing. Nashwa further said that this means if the court fails to schedule a hearing for a year, Adeeb will not be given a lawyer visit for the year. Nashwa, having tagged the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives in her tweet, goes on to question the MCS on their motives.
MCS has again restricted Adeeb’s lawyer visits claiming he will only get lawyers meeting when the court schedules a hearing. Meaning if the court doesn't schedule a hearing for a year he would not be given a lawyer visit for a year. MCS what are you doing to him? @hrcmv
