Ruling party PPM receives ACRE membership

Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has become a member of the Alliance of Conservatives and Reformists in Europe (ACRE).

Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Nilandhoo MP and PPM Secretary General, confirmed this in a tweet.

The ACRE is a recognized political party in the European Parliament which consists of parties from 24 countries, including the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party, the United States’ Republican Party, and the Isreali Prime Minister’s Likud party.

PPM is currently the only ACRE member from South Asia.

President of ACRE Jan Zahradil, a member of the Czech Republic’s Civil Democratic Party (ODS), is seen to defend Israel’s actions in Palestine. In May, he condemned Turkish President Erdogan for comparing Israel to Nazi Germany due to the recent unrest in Gaza.
