A vessel that travelled from capital city Malé has crashed into the lighthouse at Guriadhoo island of Thaa atoll on Wednesday,the Maldives National Defence Force.

The incident was reported to the Maldives National Defence Force at about 06:50am and it dispatched its officers to assist the vessel, called Niyaama.

The Maldives National Defence Force says 11 individuals were on board the vessel at the time of the incident.

Their officers claim that the incident occured primarily due to ongoing turbulent weather in the region.
