President sends envoy to Maumoon, his lawyer makes quip on how his 'jaw remains uninjured'
According to the former President's lawyer, the meeting took place on Sunday
Hameed did not reveal the name of minister that visited his client, but his quip about the jaw confirmed who the special envoy was
Minister Shareef also visited jailed Supreme Court justices Saeed and Hameed

Defence Minister Adam Shareef visited former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in Dhoonidhoo Detention Center on Sunday, as President Abdulla Yameen's special envoy.

In a tweet posted on Monday, the former President's defence lawyer Maumoon Hameed reported that "despite a visit to him by a certain high official of the government, President Maumoon's jaw remains uninjured".

While the lawyer did not disclose the name of the said official, RaajjeMV understands that it was the defence minister that visited the detained former president.

Furthermore, Hameed's quip about the jaw also confirmed that the incumbent President's envoy was none other than Minister Adam Shareef.

After a clash between the parliament military security personnel and opposition MPs in August 2017, the minister had said that he "would have broken an MP's jaw', had he been there. He made the statement in a secret recording which was later leaked online.

RaajjeMV understands that the defence minister met with jailed Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed in Maafushi Prison as well.

Two charges have been imposed on Maumoon, obstruction and terrorism. Terror charges were raised on him for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government. The Criminal Court has ordered to keep him in remand until the trial concludes. If found guilty, he could face a jail sentence of over 17 years.
