The Criminal Court has refused to accept former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s list of witnesses testifying in his defence, on the basis of the document not fitting its criteria.
Maumoon Hameed, a lawyer defending Gayoom in the terrorism allegations against him, said this through a post on his Twitter account, where he also said that prosecutors are ‘dodging a bullet’.
Criminal Ct has sent back our witnesses & exhibits lists for, well, colouring outside the lines.

Apparently, when we printed our lists, borders were not drawn on the text boxes & so the form became an unauthorised version.
I guess that's one way for @PGO_MV to dodge a bullet. https://t.co/OOcNnVR1UJ
In a previous post, Maumoon said that Gayoom’s defence team has submitted 29 pre-trial motions and 108 witnesses in his defence.
Gayoom is accused of bribery for allegedly funneling money to public officials since 2013 and of terrorism for ‘conspiring to overthrow the government’.
The state has submitted thirty three pieces of evidence against the former strongman.
