Two categories have been amended under the state's housing program initiated by the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.

The two amended categories are for doctors and nurses and the one specialized for teachers.

According to the ministry, the qualification that requires applicants to be married by the date of submission has been revoked.

With this change, applicants do not need to be married to apply for flats. However, the ministry did highlight that they will give priority to married couples, employed individuals and families when allocating flats.

After these amendments, applicants must submit a letter by their employer, or a letter detailing their line of work, place of work, salary and position with the application forms for the flats they are eligible under.

The ministry had previously brought amendments to the two categories specialized for newly weds and wedded couples aged between 18 - 40 as well.

While 12 categories were opened under the state's shelter program , 7000 flats are to be allocated this year for citizens eligible under the categories.

State has decided to give 1000 flats to civil service staff, 1000 flats to married couples between the ages 18 to 40, 1000 flats to Malé citizens who are not registered in the 'dhaftharu' and 1044 to citizens registered in the dhaftharu. Housing Ministry also announced that doctors and nurses will receive 475 flats, teachers will receive 625 flats and single parents are to receive 500 flats while 200 flats have been reserved for persons with disabilities.

While the forms will be available for collection until the 31st of July, applications will be accepted from the 03rd of June till the beginning of July.

Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had taken to twitter in the early hours of Monday, writing that up til today a total of 40,096 applications had been taken from the ministry's center in Dharubaaruge, by those who would like to apply for the government's social housing scheme "Hiyaa".
