Former MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed joins Jumhooree Party
Ali Waheed joined JP at a special ceremony held in Frankfurt, Germany
Ali Waheed wished success to party leader Nasheed, parliament group leader Solih and senior party members
He currently lives in exile due to the terrorism charges raised against him after the May Day protest

Former Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Ali Waheed has joined Jumhooree Party (JP) on Saturday night.

Ali Waheed, who was living in exile in the UK since the May Day protest in 2015, joined JP at a special ceremony held in Frankfurt, Germany. 

In a tweet posted on Saturday, Ali Waheed thanked party members and wished success to party leader and Ex-President Mohamed Nasheed, parliament group leader Ibrahim Solih (Ibu) and senior party members. He also bid farewell to the party and added that their close relationship will remain the same regardless.

JP is the third political party Ali Waheed has joined. While he started his political career as a senior member in Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party, he later joined MDP and held the position of Chairperson. Ali Waheed who resigned from the position in 2016, currently lives in exile due to the terrorism charges raised against him after the May Day protest organized by the opposition.
