The Maldives Meteorological Department (MET Office) has issued a yellow alert over a tolal of 18 atolls.

According to the MET Office, the yellow alert applies to areas between Haa Alif and Gaaf Dhaal atolls and heavy rainshowers are expected over most regions for the prevailing 24 hours.

Winds will gust at an average speed of 25 - 32 miles per hour with gust of wind upto 50 miles per hour over the clouds.

While heavy rainshowers are expected over most regions, sea farers have been adviced to take necessary precautions while travelling.

MET Office also said that sea swells are expected over some atolls during high tide.

Travellers have been adviced to be wary of the prevailing bad weather conditions before planning trips given that seas are intensely rough these days with the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) having requested travellers to report any sea accidents, if any, as soon as they occur.
