Lawyer Moosa Siraj has said that his client Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, who has been sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison over various allegations, will only be allowed lawyer visits upon presenting documents that they had never even received from the Criminal Court.
In a tweet posted on Monday, Siraj wrote that they have been informed by the Maldvies Correctional Service (MCS) that Adeeb's legal team will only be allowed visits upon presenting documents that show the case has been registered at court, and one that details legal representation in the case.
The lawyer said that these documents are never given by the criminal court in any such cases. Siraj also revealed that he had asked authorities to clarify such matters in the near future, when he was told that they do not have the answers to his inquiries.
The former VP was transferred to Maafushi Prison earlier this month for a first time, after the Supreme Court’s order to release him and other eight high profile prisoners on February 1 and he was transferred back to Dhoonidhoo Detention Centre in February, along with now detained former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and for a second time transferred to Maafushi prison in mid february.
