MET Office issues white alert for islands between Vaavu and Seenu atolls
The MET Office said other parts of the country also have a chance of experiencing thunderstorms

The Maldives Meteorological Services (MET Office) has issued a ‘white alert’ level weather warning for regions between Vaavu and Seenu atolls.

The MET Office said that all islands between these atolls experience heavy showers and thunderstorms. Such weather is to be expected until Saturday evening.

The MET Office said other parts of the country also have a chance of experiencing thunderstorms and that the weather is to storm with moderate rain expected generally over the entirety of Maldives.

Winds are expected to gust at about 10 to 20 miles per hour, in central Maldives. Other regions will have winds gusting at about five to 15 miles per hour.

Maldives is currently experiencing its ‘Hulhangu’ monsoon season, conventionally characterized by hot winds blowing from the south west and short showers.
