Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was taken to Male’ on Tuesday for an eye doctor consultation.

The jailed opposition leader was taken to the capital city at 3pm.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Aminath Nadira, the secretary general of the Maumoon-loyalist faction of ruling party PPM, said that his family was not informed that he was taken to Male’ and that it was likely that the consultation was regarding Maumoon’s previous an eye operation.

Maumoon is in island prison Dhoonidhoo after being remanded for the rest of his trial over terrorism charges. He has missed his past few court hearings due to his deteriorating health.
