'We won't be here today if the Commissions had done their jobs': Haneefa
Haneefa said that EC tried to inform other commissions and work with them when the Supreme Court ordered to discard the first voting round of the 2013 presidential elections
She also said that the current government has proven that they do not require the law or the constitution
Haneefa also highlighted how infiltrated the political sphere must be for it to have reached the Supreme Court.

Former Legal Director of Elections Commission (EC) Haneefa Khalid said that we would not be witnessing the current political situation if the 'independent' institutions and commissions worked for the benefit of the people since 2013.

While speaking on Fala Surukhee program aired on Thursday night, Haneefa said that EC tried to inform other commissions and work with them when the Supreme Court ordered to discard the first voting round of the 2013 presidential elections. As she mentioned the cases against Chief of Justice and Justice Ali Hameed, she also highlighted how infiltrated the political sphere must be for it to have reached the Supreme Court.

'After the Supreme Court released the unlawful order during the 2013 election, we were wondering when it would catch up with them. The day has finally come and if the commissions had worked for people's rights, this situation would have never come', Haneefa added.

Former legal adviser of EC also said that the current government has proven that they do not require the law or the constitution. Meanwhile she also mentioned that what we are seeing today is the consequences of not attending to the concerns raised by EC during 2013's election.

'The institutions which remain to be silent do not respect or require the law either. Because they would do something if they thought it was important', said Haneefa.
