Nasreena Ibrahim, former First Lady has requested authorities to allow a meeting with her husband, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and his grandchildren.
In a letter addressed to acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz, Nasreena appeals to permit Gayoom's grandchildren to visit him in Dhoonidhoo island prison.
Nasreena mentions that their grandchildren takes keen interest in visiting their grandfather in prison when Nasreena goes for visits, highlighting that said opportunity was granted while he was imprisoned in Maafushi Prison.
According to information received by RaajjeMV, Gayoom's health had reportedly deteriorated on Saturday, following which a doctor had been brought in for check-up and a police officer had been placed on duty in the cell Gayoom is confined in. Seeing that no improvements have been observed since then, court proceedings in his case have also been cancelled.
Gayoom, who had been diagnosed with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) which causes brief spells of spinning sensations, was last treated by an ENT Specialist at state-operated Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in previous December, where he was adviced never to be left alone given the severeness of his ailment.
The documents of his doctor's consultation were handed over to the authorities by his family members.
Gayoom's family, supporters and legal representatives continue to appealed on the authorities to transfer him to house arrest after the doctors had previously said that Gayoom must never be left alone and someone has to be present with him at all times.
