Kendhoo MP to be summoned for preliminary hearing on Sunday
Along with Hussain, 11 other MPs were charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer
The MP is to present himself to court at 10:00 on Sunday morning for the preliminary hearing of the obstruction case
Charges were raised against the 12 under clauses 532 (a) and (c) of the Penal Code, on the 17th of August

Member of Parliament for Kendhoo constituency Ali Hussain has been handed a court summons chit on Thursday.

The MP is to present himself to court at 10:00 on Sunday morning regarding a case lodged against him for obstructing the work of a law enforcement officer on the 24th of July where twelve other MPs were also charged with obstruction for forcibly entering parliament premises after breaking police ranks.

However, while Hussain was handed the summit chit on Thursday, it is not clear on whether the 11 other MPs were sent a summon chit as well.

The summon is for a preliminary hearing scheduled over the obstruction charged against him.

All 12 MPs were summoned to Police Headquarters following the forcible entering on the 24th of July, where their statements were taken.

The Parliamentarians however protested that nobody could prohibit them from entering the Parliament, saying that they do not accept the obstruction charges raised against them.

The 24th of July saw Parliamentarians entering Parliament premises after allegedly having broken police ranks, where police officers had later forcibly removed them, pitching them over the parliament gates. 

Charges were raised against the 12 under clauses 532 (a) and (c) of the Penal Code, on the 17th of August

The 12 MPs, if found guilty of the charges raised against them may face a jail term of upto four months and 24 days in confinement. 

The 12 MPs are: Kendhoo Constituency MP Ali Hussain, Maduvvari Constituency MP Mohamed Ameeth, Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain, Hithadhoo Central constituency MP Ibrahim Mohamed Didi, Maafannu West Constituency MP Mohamed Falah, Henveyru North Constituency MP Abdullah Shahid, Henveyru South Constituency MP Mohamed Abdul Kareem, Nolhivaram Constituency MP Hussain Areef, Hinnavaru constituency MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Dhihdhoo constituency MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed, Hithadhoo North constituency MP Mohamed Aslam and Thulusdhoo constituency MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim.
