Health Protection Agency (HPA) has called on the public to be cautious of the increase of dengue fever cases across the country.

In a statement issued, HPA said that there has been an increase in dengue cases throughout the country.

Noting that dengue fever cases increase from May to August each year, the agency said that the same is expected this year as well. It called on the public to be to take precautionary steps such as eradicating mosquito breeding grounds.

While dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease, HPA urges to empty stagnant water from containers, collect rubbish properly in bins, and also to keep containers sealed to prevent water from accumulating, as well as to wear clothes that hide their skin, use mosquito-repellent lotion as well as keep doors and windows in their homes closed.

Symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, and skin rash. If fever does not subside in three days, HPA suggest to seek immediate medical attention.
