A hearing for the obstruction charges against Male' City Council's representative for Central-Maafannu, Azra Moosa has been scheduled for Monday.

The hearing in Azra's case has been scheduled to commence at 10:00 am.

Obstruction charges were raised against Azra Moosa under section 532 of the penal code for obstructing the conduct of a law enforcement officer in a protest held by the allied opposition on the 27th of February 2018.

She was arrested near the central bank Maldives Monetary Authority premises during the rally.

While a hearing in Azra's obstruction trial is set to commence on Monday, opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had appealed on the government to renounce the charges raised against her.

MDP in a statement released appealing on the state to renounce the charges raised against Azra, states that these charges are that of politically influenced ones and called on the Prosecutor General to conduct an investigation into the cases of individual officers of the Special Operations unit who used excessive force in dispersing crowds at the protest on the 27th of February.
