The Joint Opposition has accused President Abdulla Yameen of making unlawful orders to save his own selfish needs.

At a press conference held at M. Kunooz on Sunday, Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) Spokesperson and parliament member Imthiyaz Fahmy said that while President Yameen accuses the opposition of doing illegal activities due to their 'greed for power', that his 'unlawful orders' to the military are to save his presidency.

Imithiyaz added that the military 'must find this concerning'.

MP Imthiyaz also noted that President Yameen has, in the past, devalued police and military officials.

Furthermore, he said that the people of the Maldives can see who 'wants to selfishly hold onto power given how the current administration ignored the Supreme Court order and arrested two Justices and other politicians from the opposition instead'. He added that President Yameen has halted the functions of the parliament, crushing the political structure of the country.

Additionally, MP Imthiyas said that ignoring the law, and ruling the country with an iron fist is selfish and that the President's bank account also proves that, and added that the public has yet to find out about what happened to MMPRC's money embezzelement case.
