Maldivian constitution mandates the #Maldives to abide by its treaty obligations. I call on the Government of Maldives to immediately implement the ruling of the UN Human Rights Committee. https://t.co/ekcweMIaY8

The UN committee reminds the government that as Maldives is also a party to the Optional Protocol of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, it must abide by the decisions of the committee.
The President is mandated to abide by this under article 115 of the constitution which states "to enter into general treaties and agreements with foreign states and international organizations, which do not impose any obligations on citizens" and "to enter into and ratify, with the approval of the People’s Majlis, treaties and agreements with foreign states and international organizations, which impose obligations on citizens."
