Shahida's husband given a 15-day remand, as police switch investigation to murder
Suspicions over the cause of her death arose due to how high the rope had been tied, as well as over how tightly the knot had been
Days prior to her death, Shahidha Ali had gone missing
Husband of Shahida Ali, was found hanged in her home in Nolhivaram island of Haa Dhaal Atoll, has been issued a 15-day remand by the Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court.
Shahidha, who reportedly had a history of mental illness, was found last month. Her husband was arrested on Wednesday.
According to her family, Shahidha’s body was found handed from a rope tied to a wooden post over12-feet high, inside the gifili (open bathroom) at her home. They highlighted that there was ‘no visible means that would allow her to reach so high, such as a ladder or a chair’.
Suspicions over the cause of her death arose due to how high the rope had been tied, as well as over how tightly the knot had been.
Her body has sent to India for post-mortem examination on 7th March.
Days prior to her death, Shahidha is reported to have gone missing.
Police on Wednesday confirmed that a 61-year-old male had been arrested in the investigation, from Nolhivaram, but did not reveal any further details.
