Elections Commission has on Thursday stated that candidates for the Presidential Elections will be selected under legal ambit.

In a press conference held by the commission on Thursday evening, recently elected President, Ahmed Shareef said that candidates for the upcoming presidential elections will be selected within the laws and regular of the administration 'that is there at the time'.

While the Elections Commission made this statement, the opposition, including leader and former President Mohamed has state that the joint opposition will field a single candidate for the upcoming elections.

Shareef further said that two political parties had applied for registration within the past two weeks and that the commission had denied registration for one of them, adding that details on said parties will be shared with the public on 15th of April, upcoming Sunday.
