West-Maafannu constituency MP Mohamed Falaah has responded to claims that the ruling party is the only one campaigning for the upcoming elections.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee programme on Sunday night, MP Falaah said that the opposition has been campaigning “since the day President [Abdulla] Yameen assumed power,” adding that “you do not have to display an individual’s photo to campaign”.
The parliamentarian highlighted that the various events being held in the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s main campaign “are part of the campaign”.
Noting that one does not have to promote a certain individual’s photo to campaign, MP Falaah said that “there are many ways to campaign,” adding that they will change their method later on, “if required”.
Furthermore, reiterating the joint opposition’s plans to unite behind one candidate, Falaah said that the parties are currently finalizing the details to do so.
The lawmaker also noted that President Yameen’s administration is yet to fulfill 20 percent of its presidential pledges, adding that the current state of the fishing industry is proof of this.
