Member of Parliament, Mohamed Musthafa, tweeted on Sunday expressing his belief that this year's International Workers' Day protests will successfully see the rights of local workers ensured.
Musthafa's tweet claims that the turn out at the protests this year is going to be 'historic' and that 30,000 people are estimated to attend. He added that this year's rally will go on until the rights of neglected workers are fully ensured.
International Workers' Day, or 'May Day', is celebrated globally on 1st May every year by workers to fight for their rights. It was announced as a public holiday in Former President Mohamed Nasheed's administration.
The opposition organized one of the largest protests in Maldives' history to celebrate May Day in 2015, filling the streets with people from capital city Malé as well as residents from the outlying islands. At the rally, the opposition also presented the government with several political demands.
