Addu City court remands murder suspect living under alias
Kishore was remanded for 13 days
He had been living under the false name 'Baskar Srivasta'
The Maldives Police Service did not reveal any further details

The magistrate court in Maradhoo of Addu City has remanded Gururaj Kishore, an Indian national suspected of murder, for 13 days.

Kishore, who has been living in the southernmost Addu City under the false name ‘Baskar Srivasta’, was arrested on Tuesday. Police say this is in relation to an ongoing investigation.

While the Maldives Police Service did not reveal any further details, Kishore was arrested in India for the murder of a coworker he was ‘madly in love’ with.

Kishore was suspected of repeatedly stabbing Tania Banerjee, who was 32-years-old at the time of her death and said to have been living with her alleged murderer.

Indian newspaper, The Hindu, published an article in 2006 describing the manner in which Kishore reportedly killed Tania. The article cites her autopsy to reveal over 30 stab wounds.

The details since the arrest, pertaining to the judicial proceedings and how he managed to reach the Maldives under an assumed identity are yet unclear.
