Pakistan\'s Chief of Army Staff calls on President Abdulla Yameen

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on President Abdulla Yameen on Sunday morning.

During the call held at the President’s Office, President Yameen welcomed the General to the country, wishing him a fruitful visit and a pleasant stay in the Maldives, and conveyed his greetings and good wishes to Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Highlighting Pakistan’s “continued assistance and support” for the development of the country, Yameen expressed “hope and confidence” that both countries will continue to work together “on bilateral and international issued of common concern, to further strengthen the close ties of friendship and cooperation”.

General Bajwa also noted that close ties between the two nations, and spoke on “further cultivating existing ties of friendship, understanding cooperation in all fields to new heights in the years to come”.

Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ahmed Shiyam and Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, Mohamed Naseer accompanied President Yameen during the call, while General Bajwa was accompanied by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Maldives, Vice Admiral Waseem Akram, Private Secretary to the Chief of Army Staff and its Defence Adviser.

The Pakistani General arrived in the Maldives on Friday, on a three-day official visit, on the invitation of Defence Chief, Shiyam.
